A Helping Hand For Needy Folk

JOHOR BHARU: In conjunction with Ramadan, a total of 150 from the underprivileged community received aid from Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, KFC and Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).

The recipients, comprising single parents, the poor, the disabled and others received RM100 each along with some basic necessities during the event held at Masjid India Johor Baru. One of the recipients, Rubiah Omar, 62, said she was thankful for the help and would use the basic necessities to cook food for buka puasa for her 80-year-old mother.

“I am the only child left and I take care of my mother. I am looking forward to prepare a special meal for my mother this evening,” she said after receiving the donation from Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Ibni Sultan Ibrahim. Rubiah said she would also save some of the basic necessities such as the instant ketupat to cook for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

Another recipient, Shahrul Ashraf Nor Salahuddin, said this was the third time he was getting aid at the mosque. The 29-year-old cerebral palsy patient said the donation made him feel happy and not forgotten.“I am looking forward to enjoy the food I received today with my family for buka puasa this evening,” he said.

Single mother Nora Maad, 42, said she was looking forward to cooking a meal for her three children, aged eight to 12, using the items she received. “It has been some time since the children had a good meal for buka puasa. This evening, I plan to cook fried bihun for them,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid said this was the seventh year Masjid India Johor Baru had organised such an event. “We look forward to organise more in the future in an effort to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate and do out bit to give back to society,” said Mohd Redza who is also the chairman of the mosque.

During the event, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd also gave RM171,018.43 in tithes.
