The recognition of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Rakyat) Sukuk issuance was attributed to its successful dual-tranche offering of its first series sukuk issuance under the sukuk programme, which was upsized to RM700.0 million due to strong demand and allows the bank to tighten the final pricing. The offering was drawn from Bank Rakyat’s first senior sukuk programme with the element of sustainable / SRI sukuk, which is strategic to achieve its environmental, social and governance (ESG) / Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) objectives in its lending business. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad acted as the Joint Lead Manager for this transaction.

Description of the Award

Project Ar Rahn 1 was the first Musharakah structure / equity-linked investment offering on investment account platform with the investment performance based on the performance of the underlying Musharakah asset. BMMB acted as the Sponsor Bank and Lead Arranger for this transaction.

Excellence Award by Citibank Berhad

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (BMMB) has won the US Dollar Payments Straight through Processing (STP) Excellence Award by Citibank Berhad (“Citibank”) for two consecutive years, 2017 and 2018. This is in recognition of BMMB registering US Dollar STP in our Treasury Payments STP rates of 97% for both 2017 and 2018.

The Award is presented by Citibank annually in recognizing financial institutions that have proficiently processed foreign currency settlements with an STP success rate of at least 95% and above. STP refers to the full automation of payment transactions which financial institutions receive and process a payment automatically without error, repair or the requirement of any manual intervention. A financial transaction using STP will be delivered to the recipient in a timely manner without any delay and with no additional costs due to repairs or errors.

Global Wealth & Society Awards 2018

The Wealth and Society International Advisory Council, has, after stringent evaluation under the Global Wealth and Society Awards program, awarded Bank Muamalat’s Muamalat Gold-i the award of Best Alternative Investment Asset for Wealth and Society in Malaysia (Shariah Compliant Gold Investment) Award.

The award was presented at the Global Wealth & Society Awards 2018 gala dinner held at The Courthouse Hotel, Shoreditch, London on 8 November, 2018. Our CEO, YBhg Dato’ Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid was on hand to receive the award on behalf of the bank accompanied by Pn Noor Azean Abdul Aziz, Head, Retail Banking Division and Pn Sarimah Bashah, Head, Wealth Management Department.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad was the only local Islamic financial institution in Malaysia to have won the prestigious award amidst competition from the likes of international organizations such as DBS Bank (Singapore), China Merchant Bank (China), Bank Mandiri (Indonesia), KB Kookmin Bank (Korea), TEB Private Bank (Turkey) and Standard Chartered Bank (Ghana).

During the participant’s networking and workgroup session, our team of Puan Noor Azean and Puan Sarimah did the bank proud by coming FIRST and beating out other international participants with their presentation on Impactful global wealth distribution to society in providing shelter, quality education and healthcare. The presentation was acknowledged by Dr Gordian Gaeta, a prominent banking consultant and Chairman of the Wealth and Society Programme. The win came with a cash prize of 500 Pounds Sterling which will be graciously donated to charity.

Pioneer of Islamic Banking Award 2016

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad was awarded with the “Pioneer of Islamic Banking Award 2016” by GIFA in Jakarta on 29 September, 2016. The event was graced by His Excellency President Joko Widodo. The objective of GIFA is to highlight best practices in Islamic banking and celebrate the success of institutions in promoting social responsibility and commitment to Islamic banking. Bank Muamalat’s pioneering initiatives on launching the first ever IAP deal, the innovative CASA Tawarruq product, first ever Waqf-based Debit Card and efforts in promoting Muamalat Gold-i, have laid the foundations for greater success of the bank. Pursuant to these achievements, the GIFA Committee have recognized Bank Muamalat for this prestigious award. Dato’ Redza was quoted in the programme handbook with the following excerpt: “This is a recognition which I wish to dedicate to all staff, management, Shariah committee and Board members for their leadership, commitment and hardwork towards making Bank Muamalat a banker of choice for the communities that we serve” .

The 2016 Best Transformation Project

Singapore, Westin Hotel, 9 June 2016– The 2016 Best Project of the Year went to Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad for successfully completing the first phase of their transformation project. Management Events’ Project of the Year Award is an annual recognition of an idea that has greatly contributed to a company’s growth and development. The nominees and the winner were chosen by the Awards Committee and/or by the event’s participants.

The 2016 Best Transformation Project of the Year went to Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad for successfully completing the first phase of their transformation project. The bank got the nod for changing 58 parts within 24 months, in spite of limited talent and resources. Executive Vice President of ICT Gary Chin received the award.

Singapore, Carlton Hotel, 17 March 2016 :A historical day for Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad as it received global recognition through winning the award for Dynamic 3rd Party Partnership by Timetric at the 7th Annual Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer Summit & Awards 2016.

Bank Muamalat excelled above DBS Bank and Maybank Group Malaysia to win this award, a testament that the Bank is able to achieve great heights and compete with larger financial institution. This prestigious award was received by the Chief Executive Officer, YBhg’ Dato’ Haji Mohd Redza Shah during the award gala dinner held at the Carlton Hotel Singapore accompanied by Mr Gary Chin, Cik Nur Ain Ramli, Mr Balakumeresen, Mr William Ang, Pn Nur Farazella, Pn Siti Noraida and Pn Raehana Syazwani of Wealth Management Department.

On 14 September 2011 at Palace of The Golden Horses, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad received the Industry Excellence Award in the Banking & Finance Category from Y.A. Bhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad. The selection was based on the following financial factors:-

  • Return on Shareholders’ Funds.
